숨고픈,,혹은 숨기고픈,,(밀양,2007)
면접관이 내게 물었다. 가장 최근에 본 영화가 뭐냐고.. 최근 본 무수히 많은 영화 중 단연코 대답은 '밀양'이었다. 왠지 질문이 계속되도 대답할 꺼리가 제일 많을 것 같으니까.. 그러자 면접관이 웃으며 말했다. '흠, 이 영화는 **씨같이 어린 사람들이 공감하긴 쉽지 않았을텐데요, 적어도 나이가 30이상은 되야 뭔가 와닿지 않나?'라고.. 그 말이 기분 나쁘지는 않았다. 왜냐하면 나는 일단 나이가 면접관이 정한 기준에 아주 근접(-_-;;)해있고, 그리고 나 또한 신애가 겪은 심정들을 느껴본 적이 있으니..
인간은 누구나 한번쯤은 아무도 모르는 곳에 가서 새롭게 시작하고싶은 욕망이 있다. 특히 사람들에게 상처받고, 그리고 그 상처들을 다른 사람들이 알아봐줄 때.. 그것이 잠깐은 위로가 되나, 자꾸만 알아봐주고 다독여주면, 어느새 나는 이미 '상처받는 사람', '위로가 필요한 사람'으로 낙인이 찍혀버리므로, 시간을 길게 놓고 봤을 때 그러한 상황들을 결국 나를 더욱 더 작게 만든다. 그러므로, 상처받은 자는 늘 숨을 곳을 찾기 마련이다.
남편이 어느 젊은 여자와 바람도 피고, 급기야 죽음으로써 완전히 혼자 '상처받은 자'로 낙인찍혀버린 신애는 남편의 고향이랍시고, 서울에서 멀리 떨어진 '밀양'이라는 도시로 살러 간다. '비밀의 빛'이라는 뜻을 가진 그 곳은 왠지 신애가 숨기고픈 비밀을 그야말로 제대로 숨겨줄 수 있는 곳 같기만 하다.
비밀스럽게 스며들려했던 신애를 가장 먼저 수면위로 떠오르도록 훼방놓는 이가 있었으니, 그가 바로 카센타 사장 김종찬(송강호)다. 서른아홉 노총각 눈에 서울에서 온 남편없는 신애는 접근하기 딱 좋은 상대다. 신애가 어딜가나 졸졸 쫓아다니고, 동네유지들을 소개시켜주고, 신애를 서울에서 온 피아니스트라고 말하고 다닌다. 아무도 모르게 숨고팠던 신애는 그의 행위들로 인해 좁은 동네에서 유명인사(?)가 되어 오히려 관심의 대상이 된다.
두번째로 그녀를 완전히 노출시킨 사람은 동네 약사 김집사(김미향)이다. 나 참.. 그 여자의 오지랍과 남의 상처를 위로삼아 툭툭 건드리는 그 행위는 내 신경을 제대로 건드렸다.-_-++ 가만히 있는 신애에게 전도를 목적으로 접근해서 당신은 불행한 사람이지? 나 그거 알고 있어. 내가 도와줄게. 교회다녀..-_- 라고 떠든다. 그런 떠듬으로 인해 신애가 사실 준이를 잃었다..킁..
아. 이게 상처구나.. 라고 하면서 마음 깊이 느낀 적이 딱 한번 있다. 정말이지 지금까지 내가 겪은 상처들은 아무것도 아니었구나 싶은,,, 너무나도 큰 상처였다. 상처는 함부로 이름지어서는 안되는 걸 알게된 사건이었다. 그 사건 이후로 나는 주변에 그 사건을 아는 사람이든, 모르는 사람이 전해 들었든.. 아무튼 아는 척 하는 걸 무척이나 싫어했다. 그럴때는 도대체 어떻게 말해야 할지를 모르겠어
서.. 정말 내 마음에 큰 대 못 하나가 박혀있는데, 괜찮다고 아주 사회성 밝은 짓거리를 해야 하는건가, 아니면, 그냥 잊고 살아요. 라고 무시하는 척을 해야하나.. 아니면, 다시 슬픈 표정을 지어보이며 동정심이라는 거 사야하나?
내가 어떤 반응를 보이던 간에,, 그리고 사람들이 위로의 목적이든 아니든 간에, 그들이 일단 아는 척을 하는 순간, 내 가슴 속 대못은 순간적으로 살짝 흔들린다. 그 떨림은 대뇌 속에 꼭꼭 숨겨두었던 기억들을 자극하여, 순간 표정 관리가 안된다. 내 마음이 다시 한번 후벼파지고, 머리는 이미 그 기억들을 떠올린다. 이러한 작용만으로도 나는 충분히 아는체 하는 그들에게 감히 화를 낼만하다.
신애의 이러한 숨고픈, 숨기고픈 심정들을 너무도 잘 표현한 전도연에게 감사한다. 내면의 고통이 그대로 드러나면서 표정관리 안되는 떨떠름한 그런 상황, 그 표정을 사람들을 잘 봐두었으면 좋겠다. 그저 연기로만이 아니라, 그런 표정을 지을 수 밖에 없는 사람들이 많다는 거 조금만 더 신경쓰고, 쓸데없이 위로한답시고, 전도한답시고 아는 체 하는 인간들도 사라지길..

트렌스포머 개봉하기전에 잽싸게 봐야겠습니다;;
아직 홀로 조조영화 볼 수준이 못되어서 아껴두고 있습니다. -_-;
인생은 아주 단순한 선택으로 이루어지는 아주 복잡한 우연의 산물이라고 하죠.
주역 같은 역서를 읽어보면 만남이나 인연을 운명의 변수에서 큰 부분으로 여기는 것을 알 수 있는데
인간의 사회성이 한 개인에게 얼마나 큰 영향력으로 다가오는 지 간접적으로 알 수 있더군요.
나약해지거나 궁지에 몰리게 될 때면 지나친 간섭에 침식되어가는 자신을 쉽게 목격할 수 있죠.
