분단의 현실을 더 부각시키기만 하는 영화..(우리 학교,2006,김명준)
흠.. 내가 이상한건가.. 나는 이 영화를 보는 내내 마음 속 깊이 민족성과 안타까움과 감동의 눈물이 흐르지는 않았다. '우리 학교'에 다니고 있는 학생들의 모습이 사랑스럽지 않아서가 아니다. 다만 가슴 속 깊이 닿을만하기에는 너무 좁다는 생각이 가시질 않았다. 흔히 다큐멘터리 영화라 함은 어떤 사람들, 혹은 어떤 사회제도에 관한 고발이다. 즉, 그 인물들이 맞서 싸우는 상대와 인물들의 개인적인 삶들이 주로 등장하기 마련이다. 하지만 <우리 학교>에서는 학교 내에서 한국어를 지키기 위해 완벽하진 않지만 늘 한국어를 사용하고, 치마 저고리를 교복으로 입고, 조선의 문화를 학습하는 것 외에 다른 생활이 보이지 않는다. 다른 외부의 압력이 보이지 않는다. 영화 끝트머리에 잠깐 음성녹음으로만 등장한 '협박전화' 몇개와 고급부 3학년 생들의 평양으로의 졸업여행이 이제 불투명하게 되었다는 사실 전달 정도 외에는 너무도 밝고 명랑한 그들의 모습이 전부다. 영화가 끝나고 <우리 학교>의 프로듀서와 관객과의 대화를 하는 시간을 가졌다. 내가 궁금했었던 그 부분을 누군가 질문을 해주었다. 프로듀서의 답변은 그랬다. 너무 많은 이야기를 한 영화에 다 담을 수는 없다. 중요한 건 조선학교 학생들의 모습이고, 이들의 삶이며 이들이 가진 민족성이라고 했다. 그리고 이들을 일본정부에 그냥 맡겨버리고 뒷전인 한국 사회에 대해 한번쯤 돌아보라는 것이 답변의 요점이다. 물론 너무 많은 이야기를 한 다큐멘터리 영화에 다 담을 수는 없다. 하지만, 그런 이유로 이렇게 좁은 바운더리로 만들었다고 하기에는 러닝타임이 너무 길다. <우리 학교>가 좀 더 깊은 감동을 전달하고 깊은 반성을 끌어내는 것이 목적이라면 편집을 좀 더 과감하게 했어야 옳다.
비교적 왠만한 영화는 늘 좋은 점만 보려하는 내게 의외로 <우리 학교>는 보
고 난 후, 반성보다는 오만가지 궁금점만 가득 생겨났다. 왜 그들은 남한으로 졸업여행을 오지 않을까? 정말 단순히 국적문제로 지적(?)받는 게 싫어서? 그들이 가지고 있는 민족성이라는 게 이름처럼 '조선'이지, 사실 현대의 대한민국은 아닌게 아닐까? 남한에게는 단지 도움과 원조만을 바라고, 남한을 배우려 하지는 않는 건 아닐까? 왜 조선이며, 왜 북조선만이 우리 조국이며, 왜 그들에게서 현대의 남한의 모습은 전혀 보이지 않는 것일까? 어쩌면 조선학교의 교원들과 학생들, 그리고 부모들은 아이들에게 북조선만을 가르치는 게 아닐까? 남조선은 우리를 방치하며, 교육을 인정해주지도 않고 국적만 바꾸라고 하지 그들이 받는 고통을 이해해주지 못한다. .. 라는 사실을 아이들에게 너무 깊이 세뇌시키는 건 아닐까 하고 의문이 생겼다. 김명준 감독이 직접 GV에 왔었더라면 내가 가진 의문점들이 통쾌하게 풀어졌었을텐데.. 좀 안타까웠다. 뭐, 그 제작자 분도 충실히 답변을 잘 해주셨지만, 직접 카메라를 들고 아이들 곁에서 3년을 동고동락했다는 김명준 감독이 이 부분에 대해서는 잘 알고 있지 않을까..
이들에게 대한민국을 알리고 싶다. 그들과 말투나 외모가 많이 닮아있는 북조선만이 아닌, 현대의 대한민국 말이다. 대한민국에도 이들을 알리고 싶다. 하루 빨리 서로의 소통구가 활짝 열려서 서로가 오해(?)만 불러일으키는 이 상황이 해결되길 간절히 희망한다.

깊은 사정을 알기 원한다면, 재일교포와 한국, 재일교포와 북한의 문제에 대해 인터넷 조금만 검색해도 나옵니다.
워낙 게으르신 분 같으니 잠깐 말씀드리면 재일교포가 어려울때 많이 도와준게 북쪽이랍니다.
도와준쪽에 마음이 가는건 인지상정이겠죠.
동물의 왕국이나 황하, 경이로운 지구 등등은 뭘 고발한것인지...
풀빛소녀님의 정의에 따르자면 이런것들은 다큐멘타리라고 불리우기 힘들겠군요.
